Four ways to turn an article into audio

Upload it

Open your queue, choose to add content, give it a title, and paste the text or upload a file (PDF, Word, etc.). Best for a single long read you want narrated right now.

Email it to yourself

Most publications have an “email this article” option, and every browser lets you share a page by mail. Send it to your private listening address and it comes back as audio.

Forward the email

Much of the best long-form writing arrives as email in the first place, or as a PDF attached to an email. Forward the email and skip the copying entirely.

Share from Safari

Send the article you are reading from Safari to InboxToAudio, review the extracted text, and create a queued episode in two taps.

Whichever route you use, the result is the same: a cleaned, narrated episode in your queue with chapters, a transcript, and your saved playback speed.

Built for long reads, not headlines

A 400-word news brief is faster to read than to listen to. The pieces worth narrating are the ones you keep saving and never finishing — the 4,000-word feature, the essay someone recommended, the analysis piece with eleven sections.

  • Chapters on long pieces, so you can skip the section that does not apply to you
  • Playback speed you set once and it sticks
  • Position saved per episode, so a 45-minute feature can take three sittings
  • A queue that holds everything, instead of nineteen open tabs

Pick the voice that reads to you

Every plan includes 28 narration voices — steady and neutral for analysis, warmer for essays and personal writing. Change the voice whenever you like and the next thing you add uses it.

On Individual Pro you also get two-speaker, podcast-style audio, which turns a dense piece into a back-and-forth between two voices rather than one continuous read.

More ways to listen

  • Paste article text on the web or share it from Safari on iPhone
  • Forward newsletters, reports, and article emails to your private address
  • Listen privately with chapters, a transcript, adjustable speed, and saved position
  • Share individual episodes with an optional no-login link

Sharing is per-episode and opt-in: copy a link when you want someone else to hear something, and delete the episode to switch that link off.

What it costs

  • Individual — $9/month, 300 minutes
  • Individual Plus — $16/month, 700 minutes
  • Individual Pro — $30/month, 1,500 minutes, plus two-speaker audio
  • Annual billing drops that to $7.50, $13.33, or $25 a month — two months free

One item of up to 2,000 words is free before you subscribe, with no card — enough to hear a full-length article narrated end to end.

Frequently asked questions

  • Paste the text into your listening queue as a new item, upload a PDF or Word file, forward any email to your listening address, or use the publication’s or browser’s “share by email” option to send it to your private InboxToAudio address. Either way you get a narrated episode with chapters.

Finish the pieces you keep saving.

Add the article that has been open in a tab since last month and listen to it on the way home.
