How listening to your email works

You do not hand over your mailbox password and you do not install a mail client. InboxToAudio gives you a private email address of your own, and anything you send to that address comes back as narrated audio.

  1. 1

    Get your private listening address

Every account gets its own address, something like alpha.beta.12345@inbox.inboxtoaudio.app. It belongs to you alone and you can regenerate it whenever you want.

  2. 2

Forward the email you want to hear

Use the forward button in Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, or the mail app on your phone. Newsletters, board reports, long threads, research digests, a contract summary — anything that arrives as text.

  3. 3

We clean the text and narrate it

Greetings, footers, unsubscribe links, and tracking pixels come out. What is left is smoothed so it reads as narration rather than a screen reader working through an email.

  4. 4

    Play it wherever you listen

You get a reply with a private link, and the episode waits in your listening queue with chapters, a transcript, and speed control.

Audio is ready within a couple of minutes. Long documents take longer because there is more to narrate.

What you can send it

If it lands in your inbox as text, you can listen to it. The most common things people forward:

  • Newsletters — paid or free, from Substack, Beehiiv, Ghost, Mailchimp, or a company mailing list
  • Work email — board reports, weekly updates, incident write-ups, long threads you keep putting off
  • Attachments — PDF, DOC, and DOCX files up to 15 MB get their text pulled out and narrated
  • Research and analysis — industry digests, market notes, papers a colleague sent you
  • Anything you paste — on the web you can paste a title and body directly instead of emailing it

PDF document understanding includes text-based, scanned, and photographed pages. PDF, DOC, and DOCX attachments up to 15 MB become clean narrated audio alongside the email.

Why forwarding beats a screen reader

VoiceOver, TalkBack, and browser read-aloud features will speak an email out loud, but they read everything — the “view in browser” line, the sponsor block, the unsubscribe footer, the alt text of every image — in the order the markup happens to be in.

Cleaned before it is spoken

Boilerplate and navigation are removed first, so a twelve-minute newsletter is twelve minutes of the actual writing.

Chapters on long pieces

Longer items are split into chapters you can jump between, which makes a forty-minute report navigable instead of one unbroken block.

A queue, not a one-off

Everything you forward stacks up in one place, keeps its position when you stop mid-episode, and is there tomorrow.

Your choice of voice

Pick from 28 narration voices on any plan and render in 10 languages — English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese. Individual Pro adds two-speaker audio.

Privacy, because this is your email

  • Your listening address is private to your account and is never published or shared
  • Turn on approved senders to accept forwards only from addresses you list
  • Choose whether the audio-ready reply goes back to the sending address or to your account email
  • Regenerate your address at any time — the old one stops working immediately
  • Delete an episode and its share link stops working too

What it costs

Plans are priced by how many minutes of audio you generate each month, not by how many emails you send. Re-listening to something you already generated is free and does not count again.

  • Individual — $9/month, 300 minutes
  • Individual Plus — $16/month, 700 minutes
  • Individual Pro — $30/month, 1,500 minutes, plus two-speaker podcast-style audio
  • Annual billing drops that to $7.50, $13.33, or $25 a month — two months free

Before you subscribe you can forward one email of up to 2,000 words free, without a card, to hear exactly what your inbox sounds like narrated.
