How to use InboxToAudio
A plain-English guide for turning newsletters, reports, and emails into private audio you can listen to anywhere.
Troubleshooting
Most issues clear up on their own within a minute or two. Here is what to check when something looks off.
My audio didn’t appear
- Processing usually takes a minute or two. Refresh your dashboard (or pull to refresh in the app) and give it a moment.
- Make sure you forwarded to your exact listening address. A typo sends it nowhere.
- If you turned on approved senders, confirm the address you forwarded from is on the list — forwards from other senders are blocked. See approved senders.
- Check that you have an active subscription. Without one, new forwards are not processed.
An item shows Failed
Tap Retry on the item to run it again. Retries need an active subscription. Very short emails, or messages that are mostly images with little readable text, may not produce audio.
PDFs and scans
An upload came out wrong
- Uploads always show you the extracted text before anything is narrated. Edit it there — cut a cover page, fix a garbled scan, delete a section — then create the audio.
- Photos are read in the order you added them. If the pages sound out of sequence, reorder the thumbnails and read them again.
- If a photo produced no text, retake it with the page flat, in good light, and filling the frame. Up to 10 photos at a time, 15 MB each.
- Very long documents are truncated to the first part — we say so above the text when that happens.
Forwards are not reviewable
My two-speaker audio came back in one voice
- Check which address you sent to. Only mail sent to your dedicated two-speaker address becomes a two-voice conversation; your normal address always uses your single narration voice.
- Two-speaker audio requires an active Individual Pro subscription. On a lower plan, mail sent to that address is not turned into audio at all.
- Both speakers must come from the same voice set. The picker only shows voices you can pair, so switch sets if you want a different lineup.
Playback stopped or won’t start
Audio links refresh automatically when they expire — just play the item again. If it still won’t play, reload the page or reopen the app.
